Bilquis Edhi, the founder of the Bilquis Edhi Foundation, passed away in hospital on Friday after a prolonged illness. She was 74 years old. A statement released by the foundation confirmed the death, saying she had died of a heart attack. The statement, yet, did not specify the place where she had passed away. She was sent to hospital after her blood pressure abruptly dropped. Her condition was stable until Friday when her condition suddenly got worse
Who was Bilquis Edhi?
Bilquis Bano Edhi was a nurse by profession born in Karachi and brought up there also. At the age of 16, She got Training in nursing from Edhi's Nursing School. She married Abdul Sattar Edhi in April 1966. Abdul Sattar Edhi is Pakistan's renowned Humanitarian and Social Activist. Abdul Sattar Edhi, "Person of the decade" by the United Nations.
Her Achievements:
She operated the Edhi Foundation with him. She initiates a cradle program in the Edhi orphanage. Where her organization adopted over 45000 unwanted children. For her brilliant services as an activist, she got awarded with Hilal-i-Imtiaz. In Pakistan, everyone calls her "Mother of Pakistan". She also got Mother Teresa memorial international award for social justice in 2015.
As Chairman of Edhi Foundation:
After the death of Abdul Sattar Edhi, she joined as an executive of the Edhi Foundation. She Co-Chaired with her son Faisal Edhi and administered Edhi Foundation.
She left behind 4 children Kubra, Zeenat, Almas, and Faisal.
